An interesting perspective

One of the most wonderful ways of seeing big game is on horseback.  The game is far more at ease if their curious spectators are on horses and a riding safari therefore allows you greatest proximity to the wildlife and a new and interesting perspective on your environment.

You might choose a three day ride over the rolling hills of the Nyika Plateau, a leisurely early morning amble along the foot of a Kenyan escarpment or a bracing gallop across the flood plains of the Okavango Delta but whatever you choose, the experience of riding beside herds of wild animals in the heart of the African bush is one you will never forget.

Morning strolls to multiple day safaris

There are a number of lodges with stables, where you can go on morning or afternoon rides and you will not need to be a great rider to do this although if you are an experienced rider, they will often pick up the pace to suit your capabilities.

If you are looking to do a longer riding trip, there are also plenty of options. For these, you will invariably need to be a competent rider happy to spend around six hours a day in the saddle and comfortable at all paces. Most horse safaris operate out of a single camp with horses and riders satelliting out into the surrounding area each day. A few specialist operators run safaris where riders stay in temporary fly camps (but these are normally group trips built around scheduled departure dates owing to the numerous logistics involved in setting up the camps).

On all of our recommended riding safaris, you are accompanied by expert guides and helpful grooms who make sure that both riders and horses are looked after to a very high standard.

Safaris to suit all capabilities

We can cater for every level of experience from short, gentle rides for absolute beginners right up to really testing wild and exciting excursions for those with finely honed riding skills. We can also make suitable arrangements if you are travelling with someone who does not want to ride.   Many horse safaris are able to run alongside other activities such as game drives, bush walks, river trips and camel treks ensuring there is something for everyone.

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in doing a riding safari and we will be happy to go through all the options with you.
