Loisaba Ranch
A beautiful, multi-faceted ranch
Loisaba is a 61,000 acre, privately owned ranch in the Laikipia
region of Northern Kenya. The bulk of the land is untamed African
bush with a fantastic variety of game but Loisaba is also a working
cattle ranch and a fine example of sustainable land use. Important
wildlife research is carried out here and the profits generated
by tourism activities are dedicated to conservation and community
support. Loisaba's efforts have boosted community health, education
and enterprise programmes in the areas surrounding its boundaries
allowing the local communities to benefit from the work done
here.
Loisaba employs a number of staff and guides from the nearby
Laikipiak Maasai and Samburu tribal communities who contribute
to all aspects of the ranch - the lodge, the cattle farm, the
stables, the security team and all the other roles that maintain
its day to day running. As such, it is a fabulous place to gain
an insight into fascinating traditional cultures.
Ultimate freedom for visitors and animals!
Crucially, because the land is privately owned, there are no game
park rules and this gives Loisaba's visitors an extremely rare
opportunity to discover this magnificent area free from the restrictions
that are imposed in many other game-viewing regions.
As well as heading out onto the ranch in a vehicle, you can also
explore on foot with a guide, by camel, on horseback or by inflatable
canoe along the Ewaso Nyiro and Ng'are Narok rivers that cross
the ranch. There are no time restrictions either so late night
and early morning game drives are possible, opening up a whole new
world of game viewing. So, visitors are free to do whatever they
want, whenever they want, just like the wildlife that Loisaba nurtures.
