Overlooking Diani Beach, they are owned by a stylish Italian couple whose inimitable style pervades the three villas that make up the collection. Exquisitely furnished with unusual artefacts, Lamu wooden doors and hand carved furniture, Alfajiri has nonetheless been created with families in mind. Living up to Harpers and Queen's nomination for the 'villa with the best service worldwide', it has legions of discreet staff and a team of English speaking nannies equipped with plenty of toys to amuse little ones.

A glamorous white-pillared pavillion, the cliff villa has a beautiful infinity pool and four ensuite bedrooms, one of which is an ultra-romantic turret suite with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The beach and garden villas both have four bedrooms and share a pool and massive open living area with a stunning vaulted makuti roof.

Healthy Mediterranean cuisine focuses on fresh seafood brought up from the beach, cheeses and Parma ham from Europe, local vegetables and Italian and South African wines, whilst activities to work up an appetite include golf at the nearby championship course, tennis, watersports, deep-sea fishing and complimentary pampering spa treatments.
