Further Information

Kaya Mawa is a blissful lodge situated on the south-western tip of Likoma Island at the head of a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by mango trees and baobabs. Likoma Island is in the far north of Lake Malawi and is characterised by its huge baobab trees, sensational white beaches and rocky coves.

The lodge was built entirely by hand in partnership with the local community and comprises ten stone and teak-framed thatched cottages (some of which can only be reached by walkways built over the lake) and set into a granite headland. The cottages all have four poster beds and ensuite bathrooms with sunken stone bathtubs from which the views are magnificent.

The setting of the lodge is absolutely stunning. It is a gorgeous place to relax - whilst there are plenty of things to do for those with a little more energy such as scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing and swimming. Visits to local villages can also be arranged, as can day trips to Mozambique.

Why?

  • in a truly remote area and right away from any tourists
