As well as more traditional lodge to lodge safaris, we specialise in self drive journeys throughout Africa. This part of our business is called Safari Drive. A unique style of safari allowing for an exceptional level of adventure, with Safari Drive, you have the chance to go off and explore the wilds of Africa whilst maintaining a high level of security and back-up on the ground. There are few experiences to match the thrill of waking up in your own private camp, with not a soul for miles around you, in some of the most sensational locations in the world.

It could be the heart of Oman's Empty Quarter, East Africa's magnificent Great Rift Valley, a secluded lagoon in Botswana's Okavango Delta or a dramatic kopje in Namibia's Damaraland - wherever you choose to go, we will provide you with the means to experience the very best that this staggeringly beautiful continent has to offer.

How it all began

Increasingly frustrated by the constraints that modern tourism imposes, Safari Drive pioneered self drive safaris in 1993. We started organising self drive trips from Victoria Falls. The demand for this fresh approach to African travel meant that we were soon expanding the portfolio of countries in which we operate. We now organise Safari Drive journeys in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and, most recently, Oman.

A fully inclusive safari

All of our trips are tailor-made to fit your exact requirements. We work closely with you in putting together the perfect itinerary with the right combination of camping and lodge stays to suit your personal preferences.

We cater for a range of budgets and can incorporate any number of options into your safari. You can combine roof tent camping with stays in luxury lodges and you can also mix the self drive element of your trip with, for example, a guided walking safari, horse riding expedition or camel trek.

Our vehicles are extremely well-equipped with full camping and safety equipment.  To summarise, our service includes the following:

• Detailed daily itinerary with estimated drive times
• Comprehensive trip manual and maps
• Fully equipped Safari Drive 4x4 vehicle with full long range fuel tanks
• Campsite, national park and lodge bookings
• Internal schedule and charter flights (if required)
• In-country back-up and medical air rescue
• Free satellite phone hire
• Use of GPS global positioning system (if required) 
• Loss damage waiver insurance
• Full camp kitchen, tents, beds and bedding plus double roof tent  
• Tinned and dried food starter pack for bush camps
• First Aid kit
