Further Information
Denis Island is, without doubt, the ultimate beach paradise. A tiny island
and one of the few inhabited coral islands in the Seychelles (most are granite),
it is situated about 60 miles north of Mahe or half an hour by light aircraft.
There is a small village on the island, which houses the people that work here
tending the vegetable garden, caring for the beautiful gardens, looking after
livestock and fishing the surrounding waters.
The property consists of twenty four sensational spacious and airy cottages,
each beautifully furnished with light wood floors, beach house cane furniture
and gorgeous four poster beds surrounded by gently flowing muslin drapes. With
double French doors and large windows, the front of each cottage can be opened
right up filling the room with sunlight and birdsong. The cottages
have enormous, ensuite bathrooms with big 'wet room' double showers, deep bathtubs
and double sinks. Outside each cottage is a private, shady veranda and large
private garden area with clusters of shrubs, palms and flowers. The cottages
are extremely well spaced along the beach and amongst the tropical gardens
offering a huge degree of privacy and seclusion.
The main area of the lodge is a large, breezy, thatched buildling with relaxing
sitting area around a long, wooden bar and an attractive, open dining area
where delicious buffet lunches are served. Dinner takes place either in the
main building or down on the beach just feet from the waters edge lit by candles
and flairs.
This is a fantastically relaxing place and, free from the trimmings
of many luxury beach resorts, it has a wonderfully natural, tranquil and genuine
feel to it. An excellent PADI dive centre, top class deep sea fishing,
sailing, snorkelling, windsurfing and reef fishing are all available but for
many it is a joy to simply sit under the makuti parasol in their private garden
with a cold drink and watch the waves lapping onto the pristine, white beach.
