Cape Winelands
Cape Winelands is the largest wine producing region in the Western
Cape and, as well as being a must for wine lovers, it comprises
a rich historical and cultural heritage and a colourful array of
villages, museums, galleries, theatres and festivals.
Food and wine lovers are sure to enjoy this area. It is agriculturally
very rich with olive groves, vineyards, fruit orchards and other
farms churning out delicious produce including fantastic wines,
hand-crafted cheeses and honey. Activities here include bird
watching, fly fishing, nature walks and golf - and for the more
energetic there is abseiling, gliding, sky diving, rock climbing,
mountain biking, 4x4 driving and horse riding.
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek
There are a number of different wine
routes but the most famous of all of them is the Stellenbosch
Wine Route. The
region includes over 100 cellars, most of which are open to the
public. Another
notable region is the charming Franschhoek Wine Valley and, although
it is not on the scale of Stellenbosch in terms of wine growing,
it has eight of South Africa's leading restaurants as well as
some fabulous country hotels, galleries and shops and makes a
lovely stop.
