Further Information

This is one of the most dramatic and beautiful camps in East Africa. The Mahale Mountains provide a spectacular back-drop to the camp, which is set on a white, sandy beach on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

There are just six tents each set in the shade of the palm trees that line the beach. This camp has a very strong ecological approach to its existence and to the surrounding area. It minimises the use of anything that goes against the grain in this extraordinarily rich biome - so no noisy generators and unsightly building materials. Its style is simple and basic and suits its setting perfectly. Meals are served under cover near the water's edge or out in the open at night under the stars.

While here, guests have the incredible opportunity to head off into the forest on foot in search of chimpanzees often coming within just a few feet of the chimps. It is a very special experience to watch these completely wild animals in their natural habitat. There are many other mammals besides the chimps that inhabit the forest and over 300 recorded species of butterfly. Combined with the forest's pretty rivers and waterfalls all these things make it a wonderful place to explore.

Why?

  • Wonderful opportunity to see Chimpanzees in the wild
  • Beautiful location on the shores of Lake Tanganyika
Why Not?
  • Very ridgid set arrival and departure times
  • Must be fit enough to trek into the mountains to see the Chimpanzees which can be tough walking
  • Sadly transfers are very expensive
