Absorb your surroundings

The ultimate way to absorb your surroundings and to appreciate the intricacies of the African bush is surely to experience it on foot.  Many camps and lodges offer walking activities as a daily option but if you are looking for a more exhilarating, enlightening and educational encounter with Africa, you may wish to consider a walking safari.

Not only will you have the opportunity to enjoy your wonderful surroundings but you will experience that environment in a much more profound way.

The finer details

Looking up into the branches of a tree and noticing an elaborately constructed bird's nest; glancing down to the ground to see the military advance of a column of ants; coming across the distinctive tracks of a large predator or the giant, circular imprints of an elephant's feet; discovering a rare flower or an unusual beetle - on a walking safari you will be captivated by nature's beauty as you experience Africa in intimate detail.

Kenya, Zambia and Botswana

From our experience, these are the best countries for walking safaris owing to a number of factors; great operators with excellent guiding, fabulous bush camping and lovely tented camps; wonderful surroundings with exciting and abundant game. There are a number of options regarding accommodation too:

  • using lodges as a base from which to satellite out each day into the surrounding area, sometimes going further afield by vehicle drop-off
  • heading off into the bush and sleeping in fully-serviced, temporary mobile camps with basic facilities and simple, freshly prepared bush cooking
  • walking between semi-permanent or permanent tented camps, which often offer facilities along the same lines as the lodges

Walkers are accompanied by expert guides and an armed ranger, although it is extremely unlikely that his services would be called for!

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in doing a walking safari and we will be happy to go through all the options with you.
